Southern Legislative Conference Helps Combat Hunger

Legislators from 15 different states met in Little Rock today and packaged food for the hungry.

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Southern legislators come together today to combat hunger.

The 68th annual Southern Legislative Conference brought lawmakers from 15 different states to the Capitol City.

The conference has supported Mark Norris' campaign against hunger for the past four years -- by packaging meals.

The group gathered with volunteers at the Statehouse Convention Center to pack up dry food.

Senator Norris from Tennessee says this year's campaign has been the most successful so far.

"This year we decided to up the ante and we went for 50,000 meals in 90 minutes. We had over a thousand volunteers turn out today," Norris said. "We were overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and we packaged many more than 50,000 meals."

Norris says they packaged around 100,000 meals in less than 90 minutes.
