Queens, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - St. John's sophomore JaKarr Sampson will leave school to enter the NBA Draft, the university announced Monday.
Sampson, a former Big East Rookie of the Year, will forego his final two years of eligibility.
"It has been my lifelong dream to play in the NBA, and I am excited and ready to begin that journey," he said in a statement.
Sampson, a 6-foot-9 forward, averaged 12.8 points and a team-high 6.1 rebounds in 33 games this past season. Both numbers were down from his freshman season when he was named the conference's top rookie.
Sampson says he will complete the current semester and return in the future to complete a degree in liberal studies.
