Sunday Severe Weather Alert Day

Sunday Severe Weather Alert Day

Sunday is FOX16 Severe Weather Alert Day. Strong to severe storms likely Sunday.

A significant severe weather threat is shaping up for Sunday as a powerful storm system moves into The Plains States over the weekend. Showers and storms will increase across Arkansas during the morning and Mid-day hours, followed by additional development of storms along a dry line that will be located near the Oklahoma border during the late afternoon and evening hours. The evening storms will bring the highest risk of severe weather, including the potential for Tornadoes. Additional severe weather threats include damaging straight line winds, large hail, frequent lightning and very heavy rainfall.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a MODERATE risk for severe weather across Southwest Arkansas with the rest of the State under a risk for severe storms.

An additional round of storms will develop ahead of the cold front Monday afternoon and evening. The area that the storms first develop is still uncertain, as it will depend on how far East the front moves Monday afternoon. If the front moves a little faster, the severe weather threat would be pushed farther East toward the Mississippi River.
