Sheriff's Office Uses Billboards To Keep Community Safe

FCSO uses billboards to remind drivers to know their neighbors.
CONWAY, AR- From door to door, to social media and now billboards. A central Arkansas law enforcement agency is using all resources to try to keep you safe.

The Faulkner County Sheriff's Office has three billboards around the county that reads 'Know your neighbors...' and it shows a picture of its website that says 'registered sex offenders.'

Sheriff's Office officials say the goal is to inform residents they can now go on their website to see if they have a registered sex offender living nearby. It's also a reminder to be aware of your surroundings and also helps discourage sex offenders from re-offending.

Right now, the sheriff's website shows about 186 registered sex offenders, each with a color code to differentiate their level of offense.

"Our Sheriff is very big on protecting our children and he wants people to know they're out there and to be thinking about it," says Matt Rice, FCSO Chief Deputy.

Deputies are still notifying neighbors in person if they live near a registered sex offender. While the billboard has been positive in the community, officials admit they've received calls from offenders who don't like it.
