Unopposed Supreme Court Race Creates Historic Female Majority

The state's highest court will have a 4-3 female majority.
LITTLE ROCK, AR-- Historic change has come to the Arkansas Supreme Court. For the first time in state history, the court will have a female majority.

Court of Appeals Judge Rhonda Wood will soon become the courts fourth woman, creating a 4-3 female majority.

After filing ended Monday, Wood says she learned she would be running unopposed, meaning she will become an associate Supreme Court justice automatically.

Judge wood says she is excited about the new opportunity, but more excited to encourage young girls.

"I grew up without a single female justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court and for now, little girls can look up and say the majority of (the Supreme Court) are females, I think it is amazing," said Wood.

She takes office January 2015 for an 8-year term.
