Update: Benton Man Arrested in Store Robbery

Update (Jan. 31):
BENTON, AR - A local man has been arrested in the armed robbery of a gas station/store on Military Road.

On Thursday, detectives with the Benton Police Department charged Walter Wilkerson, 23, with Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property, Aggravated Assault, and Tampering with Evidence.  

He's accused in the Jan. 26 holdup of the Home Run Gas Mart.

Original story (Jan. 28):
BENTON, AR - Police are looking for a suspect in a weekend armed robbery.

It happened Sunday night shortly after 10:30 at the Home Run Gas Mart, 1415 Military Rd.

That's where a clerk told officers the suspect came into the store and pointed a handgun at him, then demanded money. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect ran from the store in the direction of Jameson Dr.    

The clerk described the robbery suspect as being a light-skinned black male, shorter than average, and with a scar on his forehead. The suspect was wearing a hooded black jacket with green under the arms, a ‘rebel’ flag bandana covering part of his face, and dark colored pants.  

Anyone who might have seen anything suspicious near the store Sunday night, or in the area of Jameson Dr. or Crystal Dr., is urged to call the Benton Police Department at (501) 778-1171 or (501) 315-TIPS.
