Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - USC quarterback Max Wittek will not participate in spring practice and has elected to transfer to another school.

The Los Angeles Times first reported Wittek's decision, which was later confirmed by Trojans head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Since he is on course to graduate in the spring, Wittek will be able to play in the upcoming 2014 season. The former four-star recruit has two years of college eligibility remaining.

"We thank Max for his contributions to Trojan football and wish him the best in his future," said Sarkisian in a statement Wednesday.

Wittek lost a battle with Cody Kessler for the Trojans' starting quarterback job prior to the 2013 season and attempted just 26 passes in a backup role, completing 14 for 212 yards with one interception.

The 20-year-old started the final two games, including the Trojans' loss to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl, in place of an injured Matt Barkley as a redshirt freshman in 2012. Wittek completed 36-of-69 passes for 388 yards with three touchdowns and five interceptions over five games that season.
