Vote on Controversal Fire Department in Maumelle Postponed

A fire department proposal sparking controversy in the city of Maumelle. The vote was scheduled for tonight but has been delayed.

MAUMELLE, AR-- The location of a proposed fire station is sparking controversy. Right now, the area is designated as green space.

People on the south side of the city say they want a fire station, but not this location.

Pat Smith, who lives nearby, says the green space is a popular area for kids to play. He's also concerned home values will drop and that there will be loud siren noises.

Smith says he hopes the city will consider other options.

The city council was set to vote tonight on whether to build the fire station in this area however, the resolution has been delayed till April 21st, according to the city clerk. They are also looking at additional land.
