Winter Weather Closings Impact School Year

The last day of classes for many districts is expected to come the first week of June.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - All three major central Arkansas school districts will be closed on Tuesday.

The Little Rock School District, North Little Rock School District and Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) made that decision early Monday afternoon.

The PCSSD tells FOX16 News that with all the winter weather closings this school year, as of now, the last day for students will be June 5.

If more closings become necessary, the PCSSD says it could follow some other districts across the state that have chosen to make up snow days on Good Friday -- or spring break but they hope it doesn't go that far.

"There are a lot of choices out there but what we're doing is just hoping that this is going to be one of our last days out and go through June 5 or 6 if we need to and take it from there," says PCSSD spokesperson Deb Roush.

Roush says if needed, the PCSSD could apply to the Arkansas Department of Education for a for a waiver -- but it would have to be under extreme circumstances.
