Entergy Ark. Bringing in Nearly 7,000 Workers for Potential Ice Storm

Company urges citizens to brace for potential outages.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Entergy Arkansas is mobilizing for a significant ice storm, with up to 5/8” of ice accumulation, wet snow and possible wind gusts of 25 mph, that could affect all or parts of Entergy Arkansas service territory from Thursday into Sunday.

Based on previous storm computer models and the weather tracking services used, this first winter weather event of the season is capable of causing widespread and extended power outages.

“With a major storm that affects a large area of our territory, power restoration for all customers could take between five to seven days to complete, with the majority of customers being back in service much sooner than that,” said Brady Aldy, transmission and distribution operations director for Entergy Arkansas, Inc. Entergy crews and contractors are prepared to work long hours after the storm passes, restoring service to customers as quickly and as safely as possible. “We are in contact with other utilities in the region and have requested 6,700 workers who will begin arriving in waves over the next few days, beginning tonight,” Aldy added. “That makes a total of 8,000 workers, including Entergy employees and our own contractors, engaged in this effort.”

“That’s why we encourage our customers to plan early - just like we do - and prepare for the possibility of being out of service for an extended period,” said Hugh McDonald, president and CEO of Entergy Arkansas, Inc.

“Before the storm front arrives, we urge customers to gather items for emergency preparedness kits, including flashlights, a battery-powered radio with fresh batteries, spare batteries, canned food and a can opener, a supply of fresh water for several days and a first-aid kit,” said McDonald.

As customers make their plans, the company will keep them informed throughout about the response. They can download Entergy’s free app for their smartphone at entergy.com/app. They also can find pre-storm tips and other helpful information at Entergy Storm Center.
