Business Owner Loses Everything in Fire

Blaze broke out late Monday morning at Angel's Appliances on Arena Rd.
CABOT, AR -- A local business has been destroyed by fire, leaving its owner devastated.

"I cried today, you know, watching it burn," he said.

Crews arrived on the scene of the blaze at 77 Arena Road at Angel's Appliances around 11:45 Monday morning.

Video from the scene showed thick smoke pouring from the building and a ladder truck shooting water onto the building from high above the roof.

Fire officials say dozens of firefighters from two different departments battled the flames for about three hours.

"A lot of the first operation was hitting it from the outside and cooling it down enough where we could get the smoke to clear and the heat to clear so we could see what we have," Cpt. Dwayne Boswell from the Cabot Fire Department said.

Investigators suspect it started in a generator, but they have not yet ruled that the official cause.

Doug Begley owns Angel's Appliance Sales and Service, and said he was inside the business when the fire started.

"The heat was so bad, I couldn't breath," he recalled.

Begley said he was working on a piece of equipment that caught fire.

"The wall was on fire where the generator was at on the other side of the wall," he said.

Now this local business will look to pick up the pieces of what remains inside the building.

"I've probably got a hundred grand or better in tools, you know, scattered around here and there, I don't know what's good and what's bad yet," he said.

Inside was a 1989 Chevy Corvette that was too damaged to keep.

"A lot of stuff I wanted to save, I can't save the car you know," he said.

Begley said he did not have insurance for any of the damage.

"Everything I've ever worked for is gone, you know," he said.

Only one side of the business was saved.

A boxing gym also located inside the building. It's equipment wasn't totally lost.
