Iowa City, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Big Ten Conference suspended Iowa men's basketball head coach Fran McCaffery for one game on Tuesday for his actions during a loss at Wisconsin.

The Big Ten also handed down a $10,000 fine to Iowa.

McCaffery was ejected after bumping an official midway through the second half of Sunday's game. He was upset about a no-call at one end and a foul that was called against Iowa at the other end, and he exploded as the game went to a TV timeout. He was first hit with a technical, but after bumping an official, McCaffery got the boot.

The Big Ten said McCaffery's actions violated the league's sportsmanship policy.

McCaffery will sit out Thursday's home game against Northwestern. In McCaffery's absence, assistant coach Kirk Speraw will make the head coaching decisions.

"I want to again apologize to the University of Iowa, my players, staff and the tremendous Hawkeye fans for my emotional reaction during Sunday's game," said McCaffery. "I regret my actions and accept the Big Ten Conference's decision. I am ready to move on."
