Update: Grandmother Dies, Charges Upgraded in Shooting

Rachel Maples passed away this morning, her grandson, 24-year-old Grant Crawford, is now charged with Manslaughter.

SEARCY, AR -- A Searcy woman has died days after police say her own grandson shot her.

The shooting happened Monday morning at the Heffner Street home of Rachel Maples, 65.

Searcy Police say officers were initially called to the scene around 8:00 a.m. for a reported suicide.

When officers arrived, Grant Crawford allegedly told them that his grandmother had shot herself.

During the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the man and woman were struggling over a gun when it fired and struck Maples.

Rachel Maples passed away Saturday morning around 4:30 a.m.

The Battery 2nd charge against Crawford has been upgraded to Manslaughter.

His bond has been set at $75,000.
