FAYETTEVILLE, AR – Tom Collen and the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team moved into the national rankings this week checking in at No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
While this is the first time this season Arkansas has cracked the Top 25 it is not the first mention of the Razorbacks by the national polls. The Razorbacks began receiving votes in the Associated Press top 25 Nov. 25 – week four of the polls. Arkansas steadily climbed from five votes that first week to 49 votes last week as the team improved to 13-0 to start the year.
The Razorbacks suffered a four-point loss to No. 13/12 South Carolina at home last week and fell from 49 votes and just outside the top 25 to just 29 votes yesterday. Five SEC teams are ranked in the top 25 with four others getting votes.
The USA TODAY Coaches Poll has been more difficult to crack. Arkansas received one vote on Dec. 2 and again climbed up getting more votes each week until moving into the top 25 at No. 25 today. Six SEC teams including Arkansas are in the top 25 coaches poll with three others receiving votes this week.
Collen has led Arkansas into the polls in four of his seven seasons with the Razorbacks. This week, Arkansas also checks in at No. 53 in the latest NCAA RPI report.
The Razorbacks test its ranking Thursday traveling to Florida facing the 12-2 Gators in a 6 p.m. tip.
