Man, Juvenile Arrested in Searcy Gas Station Robbery

Sunday evening heist happened at the Valero on South Benton.
SEARCY, AR - Police have arrested a man and a juvenile in a weekend gas station robbery.

The holdup happened around 10:45 Sunday evening at the Valero on South Benton.

Officers caught up with the suspects minutes after the incident, finding one of them hiding under a bridge.

A foot chase followed across several yards before that suspect tried to get inside a home. He was later identified as Carlos Anton Mellon, 28, of Searcy.

Police say Mellon and the juvenile had worn bandanas over their faces when they entered the store armed with handguns and demanded money. They got away with an undisclosed amount of cash they put into a black drawstring cloth bag before running out of the store.

The juvenile suspect was found trying to go into the Kroger store on Race Street. Officers stopped him and he was identified only as a 14-year-old. Officers were able to locate the black cloth bag in a trash can at the Kroger store.

Both suspects were taken into custody by 11:05 p.m. Mellon was taken to the White County Detention Center where he was booked on charges of Aggravated Robbery, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Theft by Receiving. His bond was set at $100,000.

The juvenile was taken to the White River Juvenile Facility in Batesville where he is also charged with Aggravated Robbery.
