St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - University of San Diego quarterback Mason Mills and Marist University defensive end Terrence Fede were named the Pioneer Football League offensive and defensive player of the year, respectively, on Monday.
In addition, Mercer quarterback John Russ earned freshman offensive player of the year honors, Stetson safety Donald Payne was the freshman defensive player of the year and Marist's Jim Parady claimed coach of the year in a vote of the league's coaches.
Mills, a senior, led San Diego to an 8-3 record. He completed 66 percent (256- of-388) of his passes for 3,463 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Fede, a redshirt senior, led Marist to a 7-1 league record and a share of the program's first PFL title. He finished the season with 59 tackles, 13 sacks and 18 tackles for loss.
The All-PFL squads will be released Tuesday.
