NWA Public Works Director Accused of Defrauding City of $33k

Public Works Director in a Washington County city now facing felony theft charge
FARMINGTON, AR-- The Public Works Director in a Washington County town has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the city.

Farmington employee Daniel Ledbetter was charged Friday with felony theft of property after an investigation into a city revenue discrepancy involving building permits uncovered by the mayor.

Ledbetter is responsible for issuing building permits to contractors, collecting fees and reporting earnings to Farmington.

According to an arrest report, Ledbetter sold the permits instead to a local builder and deposited the money into his business bank account.

The total loss is estimated at more than $33,000.

Ledbetter has since bonded out of jail, and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
