Police Investigate 2 Drive-By Shootings in 1 Day

Little Rock police say two drive-by shootings occurred in the same neighborhood on Friday.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A city bus gets caught in the crossfire, during a shootout in Little Rock, startling passengers on board.

It happened early Friday afternoon on 25th and Lewis.

Police say the bus wasn't the target but just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

No passengers were hurt, but a bullet did graze the ankle of one woman in the neighborhood.

People who live there say this kind of crime is nothing new.

Most people go their whole lives without ever hearing bullets buzzing by, but one group of kids say it's the norm in their neighborhood.

"I was just sitting watching Netflix on my computer and all of a sudden I heard pow, pow, pow and it was kind of scary, but I'm kind of used to it by now," Autumn Smith said.

It was a dramatic scene after witnesses say a truck of guys drove by shooting at a group of people standing in a yard near West 25th and Lewis.

Police say some in the group returned fire.

"When I stepped outside and looked over there where it was occurring, I seen a whole bunch of kids just running the opposite way," Smith said.

Lt. Sidney Allen, with the Little Rock Police Department, said, "And we're in the process right now of trying to track down any possible witnesses and other leads that may lead us to identifying who that person in the vehicle was."

Allen says right now they don't know the suspects or their motive, but the police department beefed up patrols in the area to keep people safe.

"The last thing we want is for the violence to continue to escalate," Allen said.

While police search for the suspects, people living in the area say they're ready for changes and a lot less drama.

"I just hope nothing else happens. I want the neighborhood to be more safe so we can actually have a great neighborhood," Smith said.

Police say another drive-by shooting happened in the same area just before 6 Friday morning.

They believe the two shootings are related.

A dog was killed in that first incident.
