School Bus Overturns Taking Students Home from School

The handicapped bus was driving down a hill when it hit a solid sheet of ice, began sliding and then hit a ditch and flipped.
DOVER, AR -- Icy roads made for a dangerous trip home from school when a bus flipped over after hitting ice and running into a ditch in rural Pope County.

The handicapped bus was driving down a hill when it hit a solid sheet of ice, began sliding and then hit a ditch and flipped.

We spoke with the first witness on the scene who lived nearby about what those first frantic moments were like when she realized a bus flipped over with children inside.

"Grabbed the phone and was calling 911 and trying to tell the operator what I saw and she asked me questions 'Are the kids hurt?' I'm running and I'm like I don't know, I don't see anything yet, and she's like, 'Don't yell I can't understand.' I'm like, 'I'm not yelling I'm running!'"
said Kim Brock who lives near the accident.

According to the sheriff office there were no official injuries, but Brock said she took all the kids inside her home until school and county officials arrived. She says there were two kids with sprained ankles and the teacher had a sprained thumb.
