State Officials Ready to Calculate Cost of Winter Storm

Gov. Beebe says a lot of money was spent on electric and utilities to bring in power crews from other states to help with restoration and repairs.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Governor Mike Beebe says he and other state officials will soon tally up the cost of this winter storm.

The governor says a lot of money was spent on electric and utilities to bring in power crews from other states to help with restoration and repairs.

Beebe says he's surprised, however, about the early round of winter weather.

"You wonder how many more of these are we gonna have," Beebe says. "It did seem to come a lot earlier this year, but that's Arkansas weather, it's such that you can't pigeonhole it. Just because we got one early doesn't mean we'll have one all the time, and if we have a mild winter, that doesn't mean we will have a mild spring."

Governor Beebe says it could take a few weeks to determine a total cost for this winter storm.
