State: Stay Off Roads Due to Treacherous Conditions

State highway officials urged drivers to stay off the roads Sunday morning following another round of wintry precipitation Saturday evening that left more ice and slick spots behind.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - State highway officials urged drivers to stay off the roads Sunday morning following another round of wintry precipitation Saturday evening that left more ice and slick spots behind.

As of 9 a.m. Sunday, ice or ice patches was being reported on every major roadway in the state.  AHTD crews continues to work around the clock to clear roadways.

Many drivers who had to venture out Sunday said roads were harder to drive this morning than they were at any other point over the last couple days.

"I-30 between Friendship and Malvern is solid ice, and 18-wheelers are barreling through it like it's completely clear," wrote Jasper Ballew on Facebook. "Sensible folks were doing 40 in the right hand lane and still slipping on occasion."

"Black ice on I-40 through NLR this morning, slick," wrote Brandon Simmons.

"On my way home from working overnights at a local hospital, the roads were a sheet of ice. 20-30 mph. Very dangerous," added Edwin Frazier.
