Nacogdoches, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Stephen F. Austin's new head football coach will be greeted by a favorable schedule in 2014.
The Lumberjacks will play seven of their 12 games at home inside Homer Bryce Stadium.
"I think this might be one of the best schedules we have had in a number of seasons, primarily because of the seven home games," athletic director Robert Hill said in announcing the schedule Wednesday. "It gives us a chance to be a factor in the conference race."
SFA still needs a head coach after J.C. Harper was fired last week following a 3-9 season.
The Lumberjacks will kick off the 2014 season by visiting Kansas State on Aug. 30 in Manhattan. The game will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
As for home games, SFA will play Incarnate Word (Sept. 6), Texas A&M-Commerce (Sept. 13) and Weber State (Sept. 20) in non-conference games and then Central Arkansas (Oct. 4), 2013 champ Southeastern Louisiana (Oct. 25), Abilene Christian (Nov. 15) and Northwestern State (Nov. 22) within the Southland Conference.
The Lumberjacks' Southland road games will be against Nicholls State (Oct. 11), Houston Baptist (Oct. 18) and McNeese State (Nov. 8). They also will return to Houston's Reliant Stadium for the 89th annual Battle of the Piney Woods against Sam Houston State (Nov. 1).
