HOT SPRINGS, AR (Hot Springs Daily) - A Hot Springs man was arrested for several traffic violations and also being involved in a chase with an infant child in his vehicle.

The incident occurred Monday at approximately 9:12 p.m.

Don Clifton Montgomery, 38, of 127 Flint in Hot Springs was charged with Fleeing, Carrying a Weapon, and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

According to the report, Sgt. Smith of the Hot Springs Police Department was traveling West on Orange Street, approaching Quapaw, when he observed a white Toyota Rav 4 traveling north on Quapaw at an estimated 35-40 mph and drove through 4 way stop sign at Quapaw and Orange.  Sgt Smith was able to catch up to the vehicle on Exchange Street at the intersection of Court street and stop the vehicle.

Upon contact with the driver, identified as Clinton Don Montgomery, Officer Smith observed a infant baby,(3 months) in the front passenger seat with no child safety seat present.

Mr. Montgomery stated he did not have a driver’s license or proof of insurance.  When asked why the child was not in a safety seat, Montgomery indicated that he and his wife had been in an argument and he left with the infant without a safety seat.

As Sgt. Smith was speaking with the suspect, dispatch called and stated that Montgomery’s wife had called the HSPD  and stated that her husband left with the child in a reckless manner.
