LITTLE ROCK, AR – After combining for 50 points in two Sun Belt Conference victories this weekend, UALR junior guard Taylor Gault was named the league’s Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Gault’s week began with a 27-point showing against previously unbeaten South Alabama. That point total – highest among any Trojan player all season – was the most points Gault had scored in nearly a year. She was 9 of 17 from the field in that contest including 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, and she made all six free throws she took. She also had five rebounds, which tied a season best to that point.
On Saturday against Troy, Gault again eclipsed the 20-point mark, ending the evening with 23 points. She was 50 percent from the floor, hitting seven of the 14 shots she took. Gault was also 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. She bettered her season best and tied a career high with seven rebounds in that game while also picking up two steals, one block and helping to guard the conference’s top scorer all game.
With 50 points combined, Gault broke her career high for most points in two consecutive games. She had previously combined for 49 points in back-to-back games three separate times.
Gault is the first Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for UALR this season.
Earlier in the day, Gault was also named the Sun Belt Madness Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com. Senior Taylor Ford earned the Madness Player of the Week honor in late December.
Gault is the third-best per-game scorer in team history, averaging 14.8 points per game. She has also scored the sixth-most points in team history (1,181), made the seventh-most field goals (455), blocked the sixth-most shots (71) and picked up the ninth-most steals (121).
Gault and the Trojans are on the road this week, traveling to Western Kentucky on Wednesday and league newcomer Georgia State on Saturday. The team is currently alone in second place in the conference with a 3-1 record.
