Hundreds of parents and students packed the Carolyn Lewis Elementary School in Conway to mark the beginning of the brand new school year.

The Arkansas Department of Health is reminding parents to check their children's immunization records and get necessary vaccines before school starts. Parents are also encouraged to get a few vaccines themselves.

Back-to-school shoppers are expected to flock to Arkansas stores this weekend for the annual sales tax holiday.

School starts for most Central Arkansas students August 20th, and that means the rush is on to stock up on school supplies for the first day of class.
