Harding Remembering Murdered Student

SEARCY, AR – Friends of Lauren Bump are making plans to gather and remember her next Sunday in Searcy.

The Harding University graduate student was found stabbed to death in a San Antonio, Texas park on Wednesday

Harding is on winter break but news and the shock surrounding Bump’s murder has spread fast.

Few leads coming out on who killed Lauren Bump, a second-year graduate student.

Mike Murphy is Director of the Physician Assistant program at Harding University.

“Laura was just a sweet person, very quiet, but very dedicated and very smart,” Murphy says.

The program consists of about thirty students, a tight knit group inside the equally tight knit Searcy campus.

“I think that everyone here is deeply troubled by what happened but more than that we’re really concerned and we want the family to know we’re keeping them in our thoughts and prayers,” Murphy says.

According to San Antonio Police, Bump was stabbed to death at a park at dusk on New Year’s Eve.

While the investigation continues, Murphy says harding is focusing on supporting her family, and friends of a 24-year old focused on working with children upon graduation.

“Just to allow people to process this a little bit because it is very difficult,” Murphy says. “It’s hard to see someone so vital suddenly gone.”

Murphy says students and faculty are planning on remembering Bump at a service set for Sunday January 12th at 2pm at Fellowship Bible Church in Searcy.

An online donation site has been started to help support Bump’s family.  As of Friday evening, more than $16,000 of a targeted $18,000 goal had been raised.
