LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock police said a death investigation started midday Wednesday is now being considered the city’s 71st homicide of 2022, pushing past the previous annual record for killings in the capital city.

Officials with the Little Rock Police Department said officers responded to the 11000 block of Legion Hut Road after getting a report of a subject down just after 12:30 p.m.

Detectives were initially considering the incident as a “suspicious death” investigation but updated it to a homicide case just after 4:30 p.m.

Police are only identifying the victim as a 23-year-old Black man. Authorities have not released any information on a possible suspect at this time.

The previous record for homicides in a year for Little Rock was in 1993, when city officially recorded 70 homicides for the year.
