Update: Suspect Charged with Capital Murder in Forrest City Teen's Killing

Update:

FORREST CITY, Ark. - In a news conference Friday morning Forrest City Police identified the suspect in a murder investigation of a teen as Christopher Buchanan, 29.

The victim, Jordan White, 15, was found dead behind the Dawson Homes apartment complex early Thursday morning.

Forrest City Police Chief Deon Lee said Buchanan taken in to custody for questioning Thursday. During the interview authorities were able to obtain a warrant to search his home. In a follow up interview Buchanan confessed to his involvement in the crime.

Authorities believe the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Police Chief Deon Lee said they have not yet received the autopsy results from the State Crime Lab but believe Jordan White died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Lee added that Buchanan is from the Chicago area and moved to Arkansas in January, and has a prior criminal history.

"The incident is not gand related and it is not indicative of Forrest City of Arkansas," Police Chief Deon Lee said during the press conference. "We are a small community with a lot of love for each other," Police Chief Deon Lee said during the news conference.

He added that the police department has a good working relationship with the community and received many reliable tips.

Buchanan is currently being held in the St. Francis County Jail on no bond. He is charged with Capital Murder.

Update:

FORREST CITY, Ark. (WMC) - Thursday night, officials made an arrest in the boy’s death. However, no information about the suspect has been released.

Forrest City officials are holding a press conference Friday morning at 10 a.m. with more details.

Officers responded just before 8 a.m. to the corner of Rice Street and Mann Avenue where the boy’s body was discovered behind Dawson Homes.

Lee says investigators haven’t developed a suspect or a motive, but he says the investigation is especially difficult.

“Any time any individual is murdered in this nature or murdered period, in law enforcement it affects you,” said Lee. “But it even affects you more when it’s a young child, a young life is taken from you.”

Lee says this kind of crime is rare in Forrest City, a small, tight-knit community. He estimates they average just one or two homicides a year.

Anyone with information about White’s murder is asked to call the Forrest City Police Department at (870) 633-3434.
