FDA considers approval of first over-the-counter birth control pill

WASHINGTON, DC – The Food and Drug Administration is on the brink of a historic decision concerning the use of birth control pills.

The FDA is considering an application to allow the Opill birth control pill to be sold without a prescription.

Opill’s maker says it would sell pills over-the-counter, eliminating the need for a doctor’s approval.

If approved, the drug maker says it would make the pills more accessible to women in the US.
