Police: Woman Pistol-whipped in Attempted Carjacking

LITTLE ROCK, AR – A local woman has been injured in an attempted carjacking.

It happened around 3:00 this morning in the 5300 block of Maryland Ave.

Police say the 37-year-old victim was hit in the face with a gun. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. There’s no other word on her condition.

The suspect in the case was arrested a short time later when police on patrol spotted him inside a closed daycare business in the 5300 block of W. 10th St.

Joseph Stephens, 55, of Little Rock surrendered to officers after they entered the building with a police dog. Police say a silver handgun was found in his possession.

Stephens was treated for injuries described as scrapes and cuts on his hands and legs by paramedics that were called to the scene.

He is charged with aggravated robbery, battery, commercial burglary, theft by receiving, and possession of firearms by certain persons in the attack. He is also charged with another attempted commercial burglary and an attempted residential burglary.
