LONOKE COUNTY, AR — An Austin man is charged with capital murder in a Thursday morning shooting incident at his home that left his wife dead. It happened at 31 Watercrest North during what police say was a domestic disturbance.

Arkansas State Police took Charlie Bryant into custody shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, charging him with killing Sharae Bryant.

A news release from the Arkansas State Police (ASP) says a 911 call came in around 8:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived they found Mr. Bryant outside the home with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Mrs. Bryant was found shot dead near a vehicle parked at the home.

Residents who live and work in the community said they would never have expected anything of this nature to happen there.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in this area,” Linda Horton said. “It’s so quiet and peaceful. It was just a sad feeling to come up on the holidays to see that.”

According to the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Office, Charlie Bryant was an auxiliary reserve officer with the department, and worked with them in an unpaid role.

Officials say he did carry a weapon and resigned last week due to personal issues.
