2 People Shot in Hot Springs; Suspect in Custody

News

Update:

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. –  A suspect in a shooting that left two people in critical condition has been arrested, according to Hot Springs Police.

Police say they responded to a shots fired call shortly after 3:45 Monday afternoon at the Tire Express on the 600 block of East Grand.

Investigators say officers found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say at the same time officers were responding to the Tire Express, the suspect, Demarion Banks, 25, of Hot Springs, pulled into the parking lot of the police department.

Officials say during the course of the investigation and witness statements, it was determined that Banks was involved in a fight with the two victims. Police do not know what led to the fight. During the fight, police say Banks pulled out a gun and shot the other men.

Police say Banks then pointed the gun at several bystanders and shot at a person who was not involved in the fight.

Police say the bystander returned fire at Banks, then Banks drove to the police department.

The victims are listed in critical condition, and police say they are not being identified at this time, pending notifying family members.

Banks faces two counts of 1st Degree Battery and five counts of Aggravated Assault. He is currently being held at the Garland County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
