JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. – A man is recovering from the loss of his left leg and other dog bites after an attack on Tuesday.
It happened around 2:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Conifer Road.
That’s where a man identified as John Ray Taylor, 78, was injured when three dogs described as pit bulls attacked him.
According to a report by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO), the man was able to use his cell phone to call his son, who lives nearby. When Kevin Taylor arrived he told deputies the dogs would not allow him to help his bleeding father and that he had to shoot and kill two of them. He said the third one ran away.
A deputy said when he first arrived on the scene, the victim was bleeding from his arms, legs and face. An ambulance took him to the hospital.
Deputies say the dogs were owned by a neighbor, who was written a citation for violation of a vicious animal ordinance.
The JCSO report describes the dogs as pit bulls, two of which were white, and the third a brindle color.
The victim’s son-in-law told deputies the same dogs had attacked a pig a few weeks ago that later died.
