82-Year-Old Bryant Woman Never Scared While Robbed at Gunpoint

BRYANT, AR — On Wednesday morning, Bryant Police say 82-year-old, June Dennis, was tied down at gunpoint and robbed. Authorities have arrested two teens in connection with the case.  Each teen is facing three different felonies.

Dennis said Wednesday afternoon was meant to be a day of relexation after a morning doctor’s appointment.

“I was supposed to come home and sleep for eight hours,” she said.

Things quickly changed when two teens knocked on her door.

“He wanted to come in and go to the bathroom, that should’ve given me a clue,” she recalled.

Dennis said the two would-be armed robbers were actually polite, but she wasn’t going down without a fight.

“I told them before they taped my mouth shut, I said, ‘You’ve never dealt with an 82-year-old woman that’s got a lot of spunk, have you?’ And I started hitting them with my cane, and he took it away from me.  I really wasn’t scared.”

Dennis said the teens didn’t take any money but stole a bottle of prescription pills and the keys to her car.  As they struggled to get the car going, she had time to spring into action.

“Somehow I got my taped hands and pulled it off, and I wobbled over to the door and locked it, because they were out there trying to get my car started,” she said. “Anyway I wobbled back to my office and the first thing I did was call the police.”

“(She) gave an excellent description of both subjects and her vehicle, the direction they went, officers immediately got on scene, we started combing the area,” Sgt Todd Crowson said.

Crowson said shortly after the police department arrived at Dennis’ house, the two teens were arrested.

Dennis said being robbed at gunpoint is nothing compared to what she’s endured the last two years. She lost her husband last year, and a son this year, and for this latest hurdle, she was relying on her faith.

“I just know the Lord’s been with me, because he has been with me during all these losses that I’ve had this last year and a half, and I just wasn’t scared,” she said.

According to the Bryant Police Department, each teen will be charged as an adult in the case.
