GREENWOOD, Ark. (KNWA) – Investigators with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) who found stolen items listed for sale on Facebook have made an arrest in the case.

Jonathan D. McCoy, 38, of Greenwood, is charged with theft of leased property and filing a false police report.

SCSO deputies were following up on a burglary report when they realized the same man (McCoy) reported a similar incident from last year, according to a SCSO news release.

Both reported burglaries included the same rent-to-own company items.

An SCSO investigator looked up McCoy on Facebook and found that he was selling the items that he said were ‘stolen from him,’ according to the release.

The items included an X-box, several video games, and a 55-inch television and matched the description McCoy reported both times.

Investigators made an arrangement with McCoy through Facebook to meet with him and buy the items he had for sale, the release states.

McCoy was unaware the person who showed up to purchase the items was an SCSO investigator.

McCoy was arrested and booked into the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center, on Tuesday, April 9.
