AR Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch Wins Difference Maker Award

News

BATESVILLE, Ark. – A 600-acre ranch in Northeast Arkansas is changing the lives of children who come from broken homes.

The Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch is a transformative foster care program.

It’s helping abused or neglected kids find their true selves.

It’s why the nonprofit is receiving this month’s Difference Maker Award from Little Rock law firm Rainwater, Holt & Sexton.

“One of the nice things about the ranch is, you don’t have to be blood to be family,” says Nancy Fulton, CEO-Arkansas Sheriff’s Youth Ranch.

YouTube videos give a unique look into the life-changing transformations at the ranch.

“It’s the best job in the world,” she adds.

Fulton says the ranch helps kids coming out of unimaginable situations.

“There is no greater thing to do than to take children who have been hurting, who have been at risk for physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and give them wonderful safe loving homes,” she continues.

The mental health professional says the children here sometimes don’t know the basics in life.

“We have kids, a lot of times, that don’t know how to take care of themselves. They’ve never had beds that they slept in. They didn’t have regular meals. They might not have gone to school on a regular basis,” Fulton says.

But through the ranch program, they thrive.

“Their personalities come out. They become very confident. They are so proud of themselves when they make great grades,” she says.

That’s why the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch is being highlighted for its work.

They are getting funding to go towards helping more Arkansas kids.

For its November 2018 Difference Maker Award honoree, Rainwater, Holt, & Sexton has given a check for $1,000 payable to the Arkansas Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch.
