BAUXITE, Ark. – While most other kids are thinking about what they’ll be getting for Christmas, one local 8th grader is thinking the opposite.

Bauxite’s Jared Burchfield is scratching his name off Santa’s list and giving to others instead.

The teen is one of a kind. Not because of his larger than life personality. Not because of his autism and not even because he’s taller than most kids his age.

“I think Christmas is all about joy and friendship,” he says.

Jared’s uniqueness lies in his passion for people.

“He’s always really had a heart for other kids, for serving,” says Erin Mason, Jared’s Mother.

Three years ago as a selfless sixth grade student, he was going to make Christmas about more than getting gifts…so giving them became his goal.

“I wanted to give up my presents and the Christmas stuff for the kids who don’t get Christmas,” Jared continues. “Some people are really poor and they can’t afford to buy anything.”

His reason for the season has continued. Since that first year, Jared has provided all of Christmas for 80 kids at the Arkansas Dream Center. Those donations total more than 4-thousand dollars.

“So many of us, as adults we start to think of the why we cant’s. Jared has not experienced that. He says why we can,” says Drew Davis, Arkansas Dream Center.

“It shows what kind of young man he’s growing into being, and what kind of heart he has, and how caring he is for all people,” adds Erin. “Oh, I’m very proud.”

“I’m fine with giving up stuff for other people. It’s just my nature,” says Jared.

The 8th grader is devoted to making a difference, even if that means giving away what’s under the tree.
