Arkansas Department of Correction Inmate Found Dead at Ouachita River Correctional Unit

MALVERN, Ark.- An Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) inmate was found dead Thursday morning at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit.

According to ADC officials, Robert Whitney’s cellmate told the staff at the Ouachita River Correction Unit around 3 a.m. Thursday that Whitney appeared to be in distress. 

Responding correctional officers and medical staff tell ADC they found Robert Whitney, 53, unresponsive. Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:10 a.m., according to the ADC.

Whitney had been in ADC custody since July 7, 2005. He was convicted of Capital Murder in 2005 and was serving a life sentence.

Arkansas State Police will investigate the death. ADC will also be conducting an internal investigation.
