Arkansas Guard Prepares to Assist State Police on Highways

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR (News Release) – The Arkansas National Guard on Wednesday again answered the call to support the Arkansas State Police with teams of Guardsmen at area troop headquarters across South Arkansas.
 
As winter storm Remus began dumping significant snowfall on a majority of the southern half of the state the Arkansas National Guard received a tasking from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management for several teams to assist the Arkansas State Police with transportation and possible assistance to stranded motorists along the highways.
 
The support missions were assigned to elements of the Guard’s 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.  Currently the Guard has three teams standing by to provide assistance.  The teams are made up of two HMMWVs and four Soldiers at each location working 12-hour shifts with the troopers.  Missions thus far total 14 Guard members and six vehicles.
 
Guard teams are assisting Arkansas State Police Troop Headquarters at:
 
Troop – K Headquarters in Hot Springs
 
Troop – G Headquarters in Hope
 
Troop – E Headquarters in Pine Bluff
 
And a two-member coordination team at the Brigade’s headquarters at Camp Joseph T. Robinson
