LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A murder investigation is underway in Jacksonville, Florida into the death of a young mother from Arkansas.
Action News Jax (WJAX) in Jacksonville reports there’s still no arrest in the Jan. 4 killing of Destiny Dennis, 21.
The victim’s mother, Emily Anne Martin, has told WJAX that Destiny lived in Arkansas, had a six-month-old daughter, and was just passing through Jacksonville when she was killed.
A police report says the woman was pronounced dead after being dropped off around 6 a.m. at a Jacksonville hospital. Dennis’ mother tells WJAX that her daughter died as a result of a possible robbery attempt at a gas station and that her baby was reportedly with her at the time.

“Destiny was a very loving person very kindhearted, help anybody she could, strong-willed, liked to do things her way, but she was a pretty good judge of character,” said Martin.
Many have taken to social media to express their condolences and share their thoughts. The family says Destiny leaves behind nine brothers, and one sister, in addition to her daughter.
“A beautiful six-month-old baby girl, holding her now, and she’ll never get the chance to know her mother like we knew her,” continued Martin.
Meanwhile, Dennis’ family is holding out hope for justice.
“It would be a relief because we would know what happened to her and that the person who did it would be held accountable, however, it’s still not going to bring my baby back but I would like to know what happened,” said Martin.
There’s no word yet on the circumstances of the deadly shooting.
