Arrest made in deadly Texarkana shooting

TEXARKANA, Ark. – An early morning shooting has left one dead and another in custody, police say.  

Texarkana Arkansas Police were called at 12:30 a.m. to the Village Park South apartments located at the 2200 block of East Street in regards to a shooting.

At the scene, officers learned the victim, Jaqualyn Paxton, 18, suffered a gunshot wound and was being taken to a nearby hospital by friends. She later died from her injuries. 

Markelle Davis, 19, was found shortly after leaving the scene by officers and Miller County deputies. 

Detectives determined a fight ensued between Paxton and Davis in the parking lot of the complex when Paxton was shot. 

Davis was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing.
