LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (News Release) — The Victory Over Violence campaign announced Tuesday that its second Mentor Match Day aimed at finding mentors for at-risk youth in Central Arkansas will take place Tuesday, September 25 during all KARK and Fox16 newscasts.

During each newscast, a phone bank will be open allowing you to call in and volunteer your time to work with a young person.  To serve as a mentor, you only need to offer four hours each month.

During last year’s single day signup blitz, 120 people stepped up and offered their time.

Victory Over Violence mentoring coordinator Robert Holt and his staff from Healing Waters Outreach Center will provide training and help coordinate the matches through various  through partner organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Central Arkansas and the Little Rock School District.

Holt has been working to curb violence for more than 20 years. He’s a co-founder of the Victory Over Violence campaign in conjunction with KARK and Fox16.

“Mentors are individuals who can honestly say they’re part of the solution to changing our world for the better,” Holt said of the opportunity to serve a young person.

Male mentors are in particular need right now. Of the more than 250 applications received since the beginning of Victory Over Violence, only 25-percent have been males.

If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a mentor, tell them to tune in on September 25 to get more information. If they’re prepared to make the decision now, they can fill out an application here.
