Caught on tape: Man steals from charity

CONWAY, AR – So much for “Goodwill.”

In surveillance footage from the thrift store’s Conway location, you see Kyla Wilson, the store’s manager, checking out customers like usual.

Then comes something unusual: one customer pays for a few items, but later, when Wilson turns away, the customer helps himself to a little something extra.

“I mean I guess they needed it more than us,” said Wilson, “but you know I really wish they wouldn’t have done that.”

The man, accompanied by a woman and two children, stole a donation box with about $50 in it. Proceeds go to help train disabled employees.

“To some people this is not a big thing,” said Conway Police Spokesperson Latresha Woodruff, “but to the people who gave money and to the people who were going to receive the money, it’s huge.”

That’s why police want your help in figuring out who the man is. In addition to stealing from a charity, he did it in front a child.

“To set that kind of an example for children, it’s heartbreaking, it’s, I can’t even believe that someone would do that,” said Woodruff.

Neither can Wilson. Now she just hopes police track the thief down.

“He could’ve at least waited until his kids were outside, but really they’re still gonna see he done it,” said Wilson, “so it’s just not showing a good example.”

If you recognize the alleged thief, you’re asked to please call Conway police.
