SHANNON HILLS, Ark. – Inside a store space in a Shannon Hills strip mall sits a non-profit doing several things to help the local community.
Karen Spears has been with Healing Waters Outreach Center for five years, and she says the number of people they have helped is countless.
We get to enjoy being servants and taking care of the families that come through here,” Spears said. “We are able to take care of a lot of families out here.”
They have a multitude of programs such as GED help, a store families in need can shop in using healing waters cash coupons, and a food pantry. Spears says anyone can come by.
“We don’t have any of the rules where our families have to live within 30 miles of that food bank,” Spears says, and so far this year the faith based non-profit has helped nearly 800 families.
Spears says, “Not everybody needs us every week. Some may need us once every couple of months, and then we have some families that may need us weekly.”
Healing Waters Outreach Center now being honored for showing compassion and service to others, giving families in need from all around a step up.
Rainwater, Holt, & Sexton delivered the Difference Maker Award with a $1,000 check as thanks for their work in the community.
“A lot of our families come in from Little Rock, Saline County,” Spears concludes. “You can come in from Texas and we’re going to make sure our families are well taken care of.”
