LITTLE ROCK, AR- Con artists still targeting a group of utility customers in Arkansas. Entergy Arkansas now reminding folks to be cautious of a phone scam regarding their energy bill.

“It’s happening literally throughout the country,” said Sally Graham, Entergy Arkansas spokesperson.

It’s happening at Entergy Arkansas and its sister companies in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Sally Graham says some of the company’s 700,000 customers are falling victim and worries it can happen to more.

“The scam artists are calling and saying your electricity is going to be disconnected within an hour or two hours unless you pay us by Money Pak,” said Graham.

Money Pak is a system Entergy Arkansas doesn’t use. Graham wants to remind customers while the company does play courtesy calls if you’re at risk for disconnection those calls are recorded calls, not live customer service. Also, Entergy never demands immediate payment.

“Just put the brakes on you know, don’t start getting your money out to do any kind of money pack because it’s not a legitimate way to pay your bill with Entergy Arkansas,” said Graham.

However, it’s too late for some customers. Money is gone, and they still have to pay Entergy for their bill.

“We’ll definitely work with level payments and working with each individual person who believes they’ve been victim to the scam,” said Graham.

As long as the hot temperatures keep kicking in, Entergy officials say these scams will continue.
