LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – There are at least two families in Little Rock trying to understand 2017 but praying for hope as 2018 nears.
Danny Lewis was shot and killed August 6th, 2017 while sleeping in his home off Howard Street.
His brother Kenneth Lewis was also shot in the head during the apparent robbery but survived.
“The people responsible for shooting me and killing my brother is 15, in their teens,” says Kenneth.
Danny’s daughter Jessica Lewis says 2017 has been heartbreaking because people know who killed her father but it comes down to police proving it.
“When you kind of have those people in your own community and neighborhood [that won’t talk to police] it is kind of a slap in the face,” says Jessica.
In February, Troy Langston was shot and killed off Wolfe Street.
Langston’s sister Charmaine Cook-Johnson says she’s nervous about the holidays approaching.
“I definitely thought about having Thanksgiving without my brother. That had come across my mind. I’m mentally preparing myself for that absence,” says Cook-Johnson.
Both families say they want to see justice. They also want better communication between victim’s families and the Little Rock Police Department.
“I would like the homicide division to communicate with me a little bit better — a whole lot better to be honest with you,” says Cook-Johnson.
The two families sat down with FOX 16’s Mitch McCoy to discuss 2017 and the hopes they have as 2018 nears.
