Family Health: Preventing reflux disease

News

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- Reflux disease is another name for heartburn.

It can typically be managed through medication or diet, like limiting fried foods.

When left untreated, it can cause things like weight loss, painful chewing and difficulty swallowing or something more serious.

“These are things that are suppose to trigger a gastroenterologist of another provider to say, ‘There may be something more going on,’ in order for us to evaluate,” says Dr. Brian McGee with Arkansas Diagnostic Center. “So those types of things can potentially lead to cancer or a precancerous situation.”

Dr. McGee suggests you see a gastroenterologist if you’re experiencing reflux disease.
