PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – Its been more than six months since April Harris was gunned down in front of her children.
Sunday would’ve been April’s 31st birthday. Dozens of family and friends gathered to honor April Harris’ memory and celebrate her birthday in a new way. But amid the hugs and tears, a lot of unanswered questions still remain.
It was only last January when April was shot and killed while loading her four children into the car to take them to school. At the time, April was holding her 5-year-old daughter when a masked suspect shot them both. Her 5-year-old survived. April’s three other children ran and were able to escape without injuries.
For the first time, April’s family is finding a way to celebrate her birthday without her. They gathered in matching t-shirts, sang “happy birthday” and released balloons.
April’s mom Tammie Fleming says this is a new tradition she plans to continue every year on April’s birthday
“Never in a million years did I think I would be sitting in this chair today.” Fleming says. As the months tick by with no leads, no arrests, no suspects— April’s family still doesn’t know why…why April?
“I struggle with that every day,” Fleming says. “I should’ve been there, I should’ve did more, I should’ve told her not to live there,” Fleming says crying.
Now, with the reward for information up to $11,500 Fleming continues to pray for answers before another one of her daughter’s birthdays flies by.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s help in finding who murdered April.
They are asking for anyone with information to call their office or call Central Arkansas Crime Stoppers at (501) 340 -TIPS. You can even report anonymously.
