Baby Killed By Driver Folo_10026717

LITTLE ROCK, Ark — A Little Rock father is upset and seeking answers, after a driver crashed into his house and killed his one-year-old son as he slept in his crib.

Charges have been filed against the driver, but she has yet to be arrested.

Not a day goes by Chris Lazarus doesn’t think about his baby boy, Devon Lazarus.

“I’m doing a lifelong prison sentence for the rest of my life,” said Lazarus. “Everyday is a struggle.

He said Devon was his world.

“He showed me how to become a man,” said Chris. “He wasn’t just my son, he was my best friend.”

Devon was napping in his crib at their Pulaski County home last November, when Lucinda Edward-Harris’ truck ran off the road and barrelled into the room the baby was sleeping in — hitting and killing him.

“It don’t seem like it’s real,” said Lazarus.

Edward-Harris is set to stand trial in December on a misdemeanor negligent homicide charge, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.

“We’re still going through everything … nightmares,” said Lazarus.

He is hoping Edward-Harris somehow gets a harsher punishment.

“Oh I’m pissed,” said Lazarus. “Who gets away with murder right in front of their eyes?”

Court records show Edward-Harris has a past involving serious traffic issues, like a hit-and-one that was dismissed.

“This is one of those cases it’s not what you know, it’s who you know

Chris spent Tuesday at Devon’s grave.

“The only thing I did was just sat there and cried,” said Lazarus. “Told him how sorry I was and how much I missed him.”

While most family’s spend this time of year time smiling together, Lazarus’ jubilee is a little different.

“My holidays are spent at a grave site,” said Lazarus.

Thinking about his son, Devon, who was taken far too soon.

“I built my life and my circle around him,” said Lazarus.

Edwards-Harris pre-trial is set for November 27th. Her trial is set for December 13th.
