CABOT, AR – Four children have been injured after a man driving the SUV they were riding in tries to run from police and flips the vehicle.

It happened Monday night just before 8 along Highway 67/167.

Cabot Police say the incident began as a shoplifting suspect later identified as Christopher Carver, 28, ran from a Walmart store and ran into a nearby Dixie Café restaurant.

Carver then ran into the Walmart lot and jumped into a Suburban and drove from the scene onto Highway 89 before getting on Highway 67/167 headed south. He took an exit a short time later, lost control of the SUV and flipped it over.

The vehicle came to rest in the ditch off the roadway, where officers took Carver into custody.

When they checked the wrecked vehicle, police found four young children inside and helped them get out. Officers administered first aid on the children until an ambulance arrived and took them to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. There’s no further word on their injuries.

Carver was taken to North Metro Hospital in Jacksonville to be checked out for minor injuries. He was released a short time later to police custody and taken to jail.

Carver was arrested for the following charges: Shoplifting, Fleeing; Kidnapping (2 counts), Battery 2nd Degree, and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor 1st Degree (4 counts).

After an appearance in Lonoke County Circuit Court, this morning, Carver was ordered held on $100,000 bond.
